Our #wcw is the one, the only, Emma Watson. The Dean's List looks for inspiration in women like Emma for several reasons: Her intelligence, kindness, benevolence, and overall brilliance make her a truly remarkable person. We loved her as Hermione, celebrated the ease in which she balanced college and career, and have continued to revere her for her humanitarianism. Emma has enjoyed a successful career and we are always excited to see what she does next. There is a refreshing complexity with the characters she portrays and each role shows strength and wisdom to varying degrees. We feel as though we can relate to each of her characters because she makes them so relatable. That appeals to her immense talent as a performer. Sometimes actors get pigeonholed into one character or one genre and it is hard for them to escape. Emma has managed to bypass this, even after playing the notable Hermione Granger, for ten years.
Emma’s success doesn't stop with her career. She continued with school while filming the Harry Potter movies and enrolled at Brown University in 2009. She graduated with a degree in English Literature in 2014, while continuing to act in several blockbusters. Recently, Emma has spoken out for the feminist cause with her speech to the U.N. She eloquently advocated for gender equality and launched the “HeForShe” campaign. HeForShe asks men to speak out and pledge their support for the eradication of violence and discrimination against women. This caused a huge buzz on social media and many celebrities took to their Twitters and Instagrams to publicly advocate and promote the campaign. Emma re-energized a worldwide discussion with her speech. It is very admirable and impressive for someone in her situation, to use her influence to stand up for causes she believes in. It’s really just another reason why she is the supreme #wcw.
