In this day and age, your online reputation is one of the most important factors potential employers consider during the hiring process. This is where online portfolios come in handy as they can showcase your best work and highlight your experiences, qualifications, and skills. Your online reputation is also affected by your social media habits. Keeping clean and professional social networks is one of the most important things you can do for yourself before entering the job market. Here are a few ways to check and clean up your social networks:

  • Google yourself. See what pops up when you search your name. If something less than desirable shows up go ahead and take care of that now before you start applying for jobs.

  • Watch what you say. If you would not want to say something in front of a potential employer than do not post about it online.

  • Check your pictures. Again, make sure there is nothing online you would not want your boss to see.

  • Keep in mind that you are not just representing yourself but also any company or organization you join.

  • First impressions are everything so put your best image out there!
