Networking

Networking is a huge part of any career. Once you start, you never stop. The best way to keep a strong network is to reach out every now and again, so you can keep in touch. Before you get to that point, you have to start somewhere. In the professional world, every time you meet a new person, always follow up with them in an email or letter, thanking them for their time. Simple gestures like that stand out to people and they will really appreciate it.

Reaching out is nothing to be nervous about. If someone does not get back to you right away, remember that they might not respond right away. If it has been a few days, do not be afraid to send a follow up email. Sometimes people might just miss your email. Make sure you are giving them enough time to respond before sending a second email because you do not want to clutter their inbox. If you want to be a bit more personal, sending a handwritten letter will always make you stand out.
