Branding yourself on social media can be done in a variety of ways. Depending on how you choose to promote yourself, you will attract attention from different people. As has been said before, social media is the easiest way to market yourself to potential employers, other professionals in the industry, peers, colleagues, and pretty much everyone else. If you are looking to go into the media industry, social media is the best way to showcase your abilities. To define who you are as a media professional, keep in mind these few tips to polish off your social media networks:

  • Be consistent. For biographies and “About Me” pages, make sure you are providing the same information across all social media sites. These blurbs do not have to be identical, as different social media sites are used in different ways, but make sure bios and such are not drastically different from site to site.

  • Pay major attention to detail. Make sure you are not making any spelling or grammatical errors. Remember you are always marketing yourself to potential employers. Social media is meant to help you put the best version of you out there.

  • Be positive! Not only will your followers and friends appreciate it, but being positive will be less problematic for you as a professional.

  • Contribute. Reply, comment, like, and share posts and articles often. Creating a running dialogue with other professionals will not only help you in your own skill set, but also make you stand out to peers and other professionals. Contributing online will also help with your professional network.
