With tax season just around the corner, accountants are preparing for their busiest season. Handling someone’s finances is a huge responsibility and accountants should not do so lightly. When looking for an accountant, whether it be for a small business, personal finances, etc. keep in mind these important attributes you need and want in your accountant.

  • Trustworthiness. It is important to feel comfortable with and trust someone who is handling your finances. Personally, an accountant is dealing with your overall well-being. Professionally, an accountant is dealing with your small business’ well-being. Both aspects are very important and hiring someone to help you manage those finances calls for a whole lot of trust.

  • Motivation. Along with being trustworthy, you want an accountant who has your best interests in mind. Their motivation should be to the best job that they can to help you.

  • Intelligence and Skills. Make sure you hire an accountant who is competent and good at what they do. As discussed, this is your well-being/your company’s well-being and it should be managed by the best ability.

  • Professionalism. Someone who exudes professionalism and has a good reputation in the industry is probably going to be pretty trustworthy and intelligent.

  • Reliability. If other people have had good experiences with a certain accountant, that shows dependability. The reliability of finding an accountant you can stick with is the best possible outcome in your search. Finances are not to be messed around with so finding someone you know will do the best job, every time, is incredible.
