Part of any profession in the media industry involves knowledge of social media. To be effective, you need to be at the top of the social media game. Here are a few ways you can achieve this:
Search Engine Optimization (SEO). While writing make your content optimal for search engines. Use a variety of words and phrases about your main theme so as to broaden the scope of potential search engine results. Google creates an index, starting with content that has already been popular among audiences. The faster you can get indexed the faster you reach optimal traffic performance on your content page.
Photography. In this day and age, people are expecting pictures along with written content. Without pictures, audiences are more likely to get bored faster. You can thank Instagram for that. Simply adding a picture to a tweet/status/post will make it more marketable and grab attention faster than having no picture. Also, there are so many free or cheap picture editing applications available that media professionals do not even have to be an expert with photography.
Photoshop. Most jobs in the media industry require or highly recommend that you have, minimally, a basic knowledge of Photoshop. This is quickly becoming a very important tool for media professionals and is used across spectrums.
Writing. Be interesting and innovative with your content. Market to your audience and keep them interested for as long as possible. Add humor if you can, people are more likely to retweet/like content they find funny.
