#MCM: Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow

Recently named as one of Time magazine’s top 100 Most Influential People for 2015, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow has definitely earned his spot. He is the founder and CEO of Mary’s Meals, an organization that strives to provide a meal to children worldwide, in their place of education. As of 2015, Mary’s Meals serves almost 1 million students in some of the poorest communities, around the world. Magnus was inspired to start the organization after he met a boy who hoped only for enough to eat and the chance to one day go to school. Not only has the organization provided food relief to poverty-stricken areas, but attendance in these community schools has risen dramatically. The main focus is to join together in lending a hand to those in need. On their website (https://www.marysmealsusa.org/en/), Magnus is quoted saying, “Mary’s Meals is a series of lots of little acts of love. If you put all those acts of sacrifice together, it creates a beautiful thing.” Volunteers come from all different types of backgrounds, races, religions, etc. but are all united for the common desire to fundraise and provide for children all over. Long term goals of Mary’s Meals include reducing hunger permanently and providing opportunities for children to work their way out of poverty through their education. Magnus’ organization has grown immensely over the years and continues to do so at a rapid pace. His hard work, dedication, and big heart, all contribute to the success of his organization and serve as the foundation of his influence.
