Spotlight Sunday: Emily McLanahan

I am a proud senior at The University of Georgia and a Grady College of Journalism student. I’m pursuing a degree in Digital Broadcast Journalism, a Spanish minor, and a Sports Media Certificate. All three of these subjects are special to me because they encompass my love for story telling, world culture, and sports and entertainment!

I learned early in my college career that the most important thing in today’s industry is the ability to adapt and be versatile. Because of this, I have interned in the realms of marketing, advertising, public relations, and creative development.

My story is a little complicated in that while I was an only child my entire life, I have found several biological siblings that have given my life so much meaning. I’m a sister to Jarrod, Kaleea, Kyla, Kamron, and RJ. I have no choice but to live out my dreams as an example for them.

I enjoy sports, traveling, and Keeping Up With the Kardashians and all things entertainment. However my greatest passion is service. I’ve always wanted a career where I can lend not only my hands to serve others but share my stories and experiences. I want to inspire little boys and girls that all dreams are attainable, no matter what small town they are from! It is so important to pay all things forward and I truly live by that.

Journalism is important to me because I understood early on that my story is special. I hope to inspire YOU to have the courage and confidence to share yours with the world.
